What is a Plenary Indulgence? An indulgence is the remission, before God, of the temporal punishment due to sins already for-given. (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1471)HolyDoor

“To acquire a Plenary Indulgence, it is necessary to perform the work to which the indulgence is attached (i.e. walking through the Holy Door) and to fulfill the following three conditions:

Sacramental Confession,

Eucharistic Communion;

and to pray for the Holy Father.

It is further required that all attachment to sin, even venial sin, be absent.” (cf. Apostolic Penitentiary, Prot. N. 39/05/I ) The Holy Father, Francis, has granted a Plenary Indulgence to all the faithful who perform the act of walking through the Holy Door and fulfilling the aforementioned three requirements during the Year of Mercy.
