Matrimony Announcement: Jennifer Beharry and Adam Brunelle
Jennifer and Adam met at Denison University.  They started dating on Friday, September 13, 1996 while Adam was a freshman and Jennifer a senior.  Six years later, they celebrated their anniversary by getting married the next day.  There was no doubt as to who they wanted to marry them, Fr. Mike had known them since before they started dating.  He had been the Chaplain at Denison while they were in school there.  The couple was married at St. Joseph's on September 14th at 11 am.  Jennifer works for the Ohio Bicentennial Commission as the Central Ohio Regional Representative and Adam is an audio engineer with Live Technologies.

Exquisite Paintings Grace the Cathedral
With Jesus being the head of the church and Saint Joseph Cathedral the head of a family of parishes, it was quite appropriate that Bishop James A. Griffin chose The Holy Family as the subject of this fine work of art.  These beautiful paintings depict Jesus as teacher, Mary his mother, Joseph her husband. Two additional portraits containing four angels, all interpreted in the traditional seventeenth century Flemish/Dutch style, flow in a panorama across the Cathedral apse for all to admire.  The talented artist, Grzegorz Kucharski immigrated to this country from Poland approximately 20 years ago.  Mr. Kucharski has more than 11 years of training in the visual arts and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland.   He is presently working as an artist with the Columbus architectural firm of Acock and Associates.  This “modern day Michelangelo” spent most of his time painting while standing on scaffolding.  Mr. Kucharski often worked on the paintings while they were lying sideways therefore he too had to lie on his side in order to complete his work.  We are both honored and inspired by these exquisite paintings that grace our Cathedral walls.

Antique Credenza Donated to Saint Joseph Cathedral
Mrs. Virginia Kaps, wife of the late Mr. Charles Thomas Kaps, has donated the lovely large credenza in the Narthex. The credenza is a perfect fit for the back wall in the Narthex. We will use this antique piece specifically for the gifts to be brought to the altar. The credenza was used in Mr. Kap’s law firm office of Fontana, Ward & Kaps for 30 years. Special gratitude is extended to Mrs. Kaps and her children; Charles, Dennis, Martin, Michael and Minnie Rose for their most generous gift, which will enhance the beauty of Saint Joseph Cathedral.

4.  Staff and Parishioner Profile: Father Mike Gribble, Rector of Saint Joseph Cathedral

Father Mike Gribble

Every issue we plan to profile a member of the Cathedral clergy, staff, and parishioners.  We would like your help in picking out who to profile.  Drop us an e-mail to webmaster@saintjosephcathedral.org with the name and e-mail address and/or phone number of someone you would like us to profile (it can even be yourself).

Father Mike joined the Cathedral in 2000.  We recently caught up with him and asked some questions about himself.  We hope you'll get to know Father Mike a little better from this interview.

1. When is your birthday?
February 7th of the last century.

2. Education?
St. Francis de Sales grade school, Newark Catholic High School, BS & MA in Education at Ohio State University.  MDiv. The Catholic University of America.

3. Favorite Holiday?
With out a doubt - Christmas.  I have many fond family memories of this season.  Also, it is the time we remember that we are never alone in our human condition because God choose to be one with us in all of our humanity: our joys and our sorrows, our triumphs and our losses; our health and our sickness; our living and our dying.

4. Favorite Food?
Any kind of comfort food served with mashed potatoes!

5. Favorite Restaurant?
The one I probably go the most to is the Athletic Club, I just wish I could make it up to the floor with the exercise equipment!

6. Favorite drink?
I drink a lot of coffee. Alcohol would be Scotch.

7. Favorite Music Performer?
I like all kinds of music from Country to Classical; Big Bands to Broadway.  Consequently, there is no one favorite performer.

8. Favorite Movie?
I don’t get to many movies, I am not sure why.  I like the popular movies of the Christmas season: Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, Bells of St. Mary’s, The Grinch That Stole Christmas, Meet Me In St. Louis.

9. Favorite Motto?
“Deus Providebit” God will provide.

10. Hobbies?
I enjoy working in the yard, boating, and driving around in my Jeep.

11. Where have you lived?
I was born in Zanesville, Ohio because mom wanted a Catholic hospital and my aunt was a nurse there.  I was raised in Newark, Ohio.  Taught 7th & 8th grades at St. Francis de Sales in Newark.  I moved to Columbus and taught at Bishop Ready High School.  I moved to Redondo Beach, CA and taught for LA Public Schools.  I moved back to Ohio and taught School for Reynoldsburg Public Schools.  I entered the seminary and moved to Washington D.C.

12. Where have you traveled?
My favorite area is New England especially Maine.  I also frequently visit California.  I have been to Hawaii, most of the typical European countries, Israel.  I will be going to Rome for an extended period of studies.

13. What parishes have you been assigned to?
My first assignment was Sacred Heart in New Philadelphia, next I went to Groveport, St. Mary’s (While there I was assigned to Wehrle High School).  My first pastorate was Holy Rosary/St. John’s in Columbus on South Ohio Avenue.  Before coming to the Cathedral I was pastor of St. Edward the Confessor in Granville, Oh.

14. What is the best thing you like about being a priest?
Being a priest makes me very happy for a number of reasons.  First there is the spiritual dimension especially the celebration of the Eucharist.  Second is the fact that people invite you into their lives at the most sacred of times: when they are in love, when they have a baby, when they have sinned and are sorry, when there has been a death of a loved one.  Being a priest means that you will be invited into the most intimate times of peoples lives.

15. What is the worst thing?
I don’t think that I have come across it yet.  One thing that is hurtful is the “good-byes” when you have to leave an assignment... but then that is off set by all the new “Hellos”.

16. If you were stranded on a desert island, what one item in addition to the Holy Bible would you like to have with you?
I have said that if I were stranded on a desert island, I would want just three books: Bible, Moby Dick, and Huckleberry Finn.

17. What did you have for breakfast today?
I am ashamed to admit it but coffee and tomato juice.
